Default Headers and slipons

I have a 2013 Road Glide Ultra and just put some VH Dresser duals and Rinehart 4" slipons. My question is , if this is all I do to a stock set up should the bike be takin to the local dealer and have them retune the bike? I heard some where (probably the local dealer) that it should be done when changing out the headers and exhaust. I have not changed the air filter nor added a tuner.

Taking it to a dealer... they will not "retune" it.

They will re-program the ECM, but that is FAR from a "tune".

You are WAY farther ahead getting a tuner.

I type this time and again, but IMHO, a tuner is the FIRST performance mod a man should buy for his Harley. THEN pipes, mufflers, air cleaner....

some say if you don’t change air filter, you don’t need to change mapping or fuel management. Its still getting the same amount of air.

I've had bikes that started popping real bad simply from putting slip-ons on.
I recommend the Vance & Hines FP3. By far the easiest way to tune it yourself. Plug it in, open an app on your phone, click on the appropriate setup you have and it's all done.

The FP3 is only available for 2014 and newer touring models according to their website.

on a stock bike, the air cleaner will limit the flow through the motor to about 160 CFM- changing the exhaust will do little to change the flow, so "tuning" changes are likely not required.

here's the tough part- it is up to the owner to be able to determine if all is ok or not.

pay attention to signs of pinging- under acceleration or running up a hill ( or 2 up) you hear a sound like pebbles in a coffee can

many of us use nightrider.com xieds/ vieds
which will add about 8% more fuel to the mixture

if you plan on further performance mods such as cams you should look at a user adjustable type tuner----many of the riders here like the power commander / power vision and the high level of service from Fuelmoto.

-------- the pipes are the expensive part.
and have done almost nothing but be louder

Should you change to a high flow air cleaner you will see 7 to 10 HP gained- this is the "Stage 1" we talk about.

The Ness big sucker is about $130 on ebay from Easternpc- a great bang for buck value. easy install an oiled, reusable, washable filter media.
get the chrome backing plate version

Get it remapped Changing headers is a big deal, slipons not so much.

I consulted with Mr. Miyagi and he said, "Wax on, Wax off" When I reminded him that we were talking about motorcycles he replied, "Air in, Air out" So.... I can only assume from his statement that it doesn't do a lot of good to increase the motorcycles ability to "exhale" if you don't increase its ability it "inhale". If all you were looking for was a better sound then all you needed was slip-ons. To really wake your bike up you get a better Air intake system and get rid of the "cat" to allow the bike to exhale. If you bring more air in and give it the ability to push more air out you need a tuner or something similar to remap the ECM to get the most out of your new gains.
Harley really hampers the performance of its motor to be EPA compliant. Wake up the beast within !!
