Starter Issues.
It started in the garage this am with no problem. Rode to the gas station and filled it up and it restarted. Rode for about an hour, stopped 6 doors from my house to chat with another longtime Harley rider.
After about 15 minutes I attempted to start it and nothing. We pushed it home and after it cooled down I checked all the wires, connections and battery terminals, all looked fine. Tried to start it again, it would crank once and then it gave that annoying chatter sound.
That means a low battery right??

chattering solenoid means that it is not getting proper current. ( or less likely that the solenoid is pooched)
and to allow it to chatter will damage the solenoid in time...so don't.
charge battery fully with a battery charger ( not a tender) and have load tested.
if it is good, then reinstall and we'll see if your charging system is failing...
we always check with a known fully charged battery and good cables/connections...other wise money can be wasted and tails chased
so battery and cables first, then we can look at the solenoid and starter and starter drive...or the alternator ( stator) and regulator
if it turns out you need a new battery there was a thread today on a $99 deka battery...deal!
