Question Air shocks leak question

I am putting a pair of used 12" air shocks on my buddy's roadking, when I open the valves, the slight air pressure pushes oil out. Is it normal? Internal leak? My question is, is it supposed to have oil leak from the air inlet? Thanks!

slight amount of oil, yes.

when removing lines, I usually apply a little pressure to the lines to hopefully push oil back into the shocks...then release pressure and continue.

on many models the air lines run low between the shock fitting and the valve ( esp on models with the filler at the bottom of the left side cover) so oil can collect there

i swap 12/13's a couple times a year. 13's to tour

Mike

If you want to remove air you should pump a few strokes of air back into the the system. This pushes most of the oil back to the shocks. Then you release the air to where you want it. You will have less oil in the lines if you were not riding and it has been sitting overnite

Yes, they are sitting for at least 2 months.
