Question Can't get the legs in the triple tree...

Doing a chrome lower exchange on a 05 Electra Glide Classic

Can't get the legs to line up with the top triple tree. We had a hard time getting the fork tube cap out and used the lower triple tree as a vice to remove it....think we bent something? What's the fix?

Do you have the pinch bolts all the way out?

Yes I do..seems like the lower fork bracket needs to be adjusted? Or replaced?

Looks like a large bolt under the radio. If i loosen that will that allow me to readjust the lower triple tree?

No. You would have to loosen that, then loosen the actual adjuster under the top tree to loosen the stem. Can you use a rubber mallet or a rubber dead blow hammer to tap the lower tree back into alignment with the upper while bracing the top so it doesn't move?

you should be able to just grab the top and bottom and pull them opposite of each other to line them up.. easy stuff..

I don't think so. Seems like it's off a substantial amount. It it difficult to get to the adjuster nut and will I need any special tools?

I don't know about that. I can't imagine just pulling them back into alignment without loosing any of the triple tree bolts

Just twist it into place. If you loosen the adjuster you will have to go thru the fall away adjustment procedure again. The tension on the nut is considerable but the top tree should move back where it was when you took the legs out.

Got it......used a breaker bar and moved the lower triple tree ever so slightly back to align with the top.
