Default 07 intake wire.....what is it?

I changed my 07 stock air cleaner and backplate out and put the K&N 3909 on. With the stock air cleaner there was a wire that attached to the backside of the breather backplate. It just "attached" to the cover via a plastic push tab, it didn't look like it served an air cleaner function.

What is this and what do I do with it since I've changed my backplate and it does not accomodate this wire?

This issue really interests me, as I want to change my stock A/C to Stage I SE A/C on my 07 FLHX.

My stealer told me not to do it myself, as it was VERY COMPLICATED, due to the air flow meter....

It is a piece of cake with directions, but neither I nor my dealer knew what this wire is for. I'm headed to the hardware store to find an "adapter" so I can put it back in the same location on my Stage I A/C backplate. The LOCATION of the wire may be all that is important with this particular wire because, again, it does not go to the backplate directly, just attaches to it.

I'd still like to know what the wire does/is.

Ultra:

Have the same plug on the back of my '07 Ultra's stock breather. My understanding is it's included in the wiring harness of all models, but is only connected/used on International (HDI) Models that have the Active Intake Solenoid.

Yours should be like mine........has the connector attached to the backplate but there's a termination plug in the end to keep out moisture, weather, dirt, etc.

Seems a rider mentioned drilling a hole in his new back plate to attach the AI plug. Might be simple to stuff it behind the throttle body and secure to wiring harness under tank somewhere.

Oooops, mine is a european model....

That means that connection is "active"...??? So that it should remain "active" after changing the A/C?????? [:@][:@][:@]

THAT's IT!!

Stuffing it and tie wrapping it to the wires to the throttle body is just what I did, trying to keep the plug from contact with my cylinders.

The "design" of the plug should be for something just like you described, but I certainly didn't want it to be a diagnostic plug for tuning and me warp it to smithereens because of ignorance.

Thanks WVRDKING for replying! Appreciate it.

Good luck ESTOERP.....just put your air cleaner on yourself, retain the location of this aforementioned plug from what you have learned here and BINGO!!! your done. The plug evidently resides on the backplate in that location for easy access, again it is not a "function" of the air cleaner itself.

I'm off to the hardware store to find a "holder" so I can put it back in the same location on my Stage I A/C to keep me from damaging it myself, I thought about drilling a hole, but will save this as a last resort.

ESTOERP:

I have not actually looked at an HDI Model, but there's a good pic of the backplate in the '07 Touring Service Manual. There appears to be an actual connection there vs. a dead-headed plug that's not in use.

My guess is if you changed out the Air Cleaner Assembly on an HDI model, the new one should either include the AI Solenoid or provide for taking the stock one out and placing it in the new assembly. Your Dealer should have plenty of info on this!

I think that changing the stock A/C on a european model is somewhat difficult...

Wow........tis a bit different. [sm=confused06.gif] What does the backplate look like on the European SE A/C"s?If it is the same as "ours" in the US, then maybe a trip to the stealer is in store for you.
