After Daytona, we will try to get it north in time for Myrtle Beach Bike Week. We are looking for volunteers to take it that way.

I need to know if the Mascot got picked up this weekend. We are going to have to make some changes on how it is handled and I'm going to appoint someone to take charge of it and be responsible for keeping up with it and mapping out where it goes. I want to see it make it to Daytona and Myrtle Beach for both rallies. I would also like to have it for the Midwest HDF Rally on June 17th. I'll need to get it moved West from Myrtle Beach for the rally and then it can go back and continue it's journey. Skjold, I need you to contact me ASAP. I want this to be fun instead of a fight over who gets it next.

Let's get it to Daytona and then we can figure out what we are going to do next.

Sorry, I missed you. I just got home from work. I am going to try to verify if the handoff occured. I will try to send out some PM's to find out what happened. If the hand off did not occur, we will need a back-up plan to get it to Daytona in time.

Myrtle Beach is in May, so we have some time to maybe hit Alabama, and Georgia, before getting it to SC for Myrtle Beach. Then I was thinking of moving it north through New England a bit and then west through Penn, Ohio, etc. and then hit the Midwest Rally. Then move it further west and north and have it in South Dakota by August for Sturgis. After Sturgis, we try to hit as many of the northern states as we can and start bringing it south again before winter. Since the west coast does not snow much, we can continue the move west and have it in Washington by October. Then move it south to California. Then cover the southwest moving east again having it in FLorida again by next Bike Week. It will be a general counter clockwise rotation timed for the seasons.

The Mascot did not move this past weekend. I got an E mail from Skos stating that is was 25 degrees there. The plan is for this upcoming weekend. I got an e mail from Steve saying that he and Ken are suppose to meet this coming weekend. I also got the following PM from Log on name: Oliver Clozoff. See if you can get hold of him and help with the arrangements.

Hey Terry

Hope everything is going well up in Illinois.

My name is Brian and I'm in Birmingham,AL.
I noticed you asking in the forum about the
mascot pick up,drop off,etc.

Hoping maybe you can help me out.I'm
supposed to meet Tim in Biloxi this weekend
to pick the mascot up and carry it to Buds
in Tallahassee.I haven't heard anything
in about a 5/6 days on the subject.

If you hear anything as to what the plans
are or if anything has changed would you
please let me know.

Hell this is a 925 mile run that I'm looking
forward to but I do need a day or so notice.

Thanks,
Brian

Yes, the route to daytona was all set up, and depended on the hand off occurring last weekend. So now we will have to push everyone else back one weekend. Unfortunatley, we will probably miss Daytona as a result. The way it looks now, if the handoff from Skos to Ken occurs, this weekend, we will need Ken to pass of to Mac11 the same day. Mac11 will need to pass off to Tim and Tim to Brian in Biloxi who will get it to Budds by the following weekend. Budds will then get it to me in St. Pete the following weekend and I will bring it to Daytona on the 9th of March. So as long as we get it to St. Pete before March 7th or so, we will be good.

Do what you can Larry. This is suppose to be a fun thing. I know it has gotten out of hand over the past couple months due to weather and other issues but we don't want anybody getting PO'd or killed trying to get the Mascot to Daytona. If nothing else we can overnight the thing to you, take it to Daytona and then send it back and start where we left off. I want as many members as possible to sign the Mascot and have their pictures taken with it. Can you tell me when the Myrtle Beach Rally is so I know what type of time frame we have between Daytona, Myrtle Beach and The Midwest Rally.

Thanks for your cooperation and assistance
Terry

Myrtle Beach is May 12-21 2006. If Brian makes this 925 mile run to Tallahassee, he could be a canidate for the Ironbutt challange. He will need to keep receipts etc. If he can log 1000 miles within 24 hours with documented proof, he can become a member of the Ironbutt club.

I hate to be the one to ask this stupid question. Is the Mascott I keep reading about, the flag that I saw some pics of dated early last year? Sorry to interrupt, there were way too many earlier posts to read all of them. Over 300. Thank you, Gene

SKJOLD I don't plan to pick it up from Tim
one weekend and leave it with Budds the next.

My plan is to drive from B'ham to Biloxi
and stay a night, meet Tim and pick
the mascot up and head straight to Tallahassee
where I will spend the next night.Leave the mascot
and head back to B'ham on Sunday.

So it's 950 in 2 days or so.

If I am able to pick it up in Biloxi on
Saturday morning the 25th I will have
it in Tallahassee that evening.

There are no stupid questions. We have a lot of new member who are probably wondering the same thing. Yes, the mascot is a flag that is being passed from one member to another. As it is passed each member signs the mascot and hopefully gets some pics (you know how we love pics here).

You can read about where it has been so far here. http://www.hdforums.com/m_35374/tm.htm

I still think you guys are missing the true spirit of the mascot. It is about riding and meeting your other freinds on the forum. That is all that it is about.

What it is not is a rush to get it somewhere as fast as you can.

Listen carefully. Do the logistics. How many members are there? I readin an earlier post where it was suggested that the mascot make a complete circumnavigation of the continental US and be back at bike week again next year. IS that what it truly is about? That means that if it is passed each and every weekend, that only 53 members will see it in a years time and it will follow the same plan again next year.

The mascot is an evolving thing. You cannot tie it down to your own perception of a schedule. It goes where it is led, by the dictates of whoever is carrying it at the time.

Bike week is fine. Myrtle Beach bike week is fine. But slow it down and enjoy it. It is more than a party rag to be toted from one gathering to another. It is our mascot for this forum and needs to be treated with some degree of respect.

When the mascot was concieved, no one invisioned it becoming a race. It is rather a means of uniting the brotherhood of this forum, one rider at a time.

Remember, the reason that it is going to be at bike week this year is that a lot of guys in Alabama gave up their turn at passing it along. Dont forget all those guys. And dont get so carried away with getting it to some other event that you pass up even more people along the way. People who would like to carry the mascot, but are not nearly as assertive in their mannerisms. People who do not post as much as some.

Mikeeeeeeeeeeee's 2 pesos worth

Mike,

Thanks for putting things in perspective. This concept is a great way to meet some good people and have a little fun, but it is not "Around the World in 80 Days."

The mascot moved along real well during the riding season, but got a little stuck when the weather took a turn. I'm sure it will get moving again as soon as things thaw out. If it doesn't make Daytona this year, it will next.

As far as mailing it around, I have previously posted my objections to that. The whole point was to have it ride motorcycles around the country, not the UPS truck.

To all of you that haven't had a chance to carry the flag, your time is coming, and the experience will be well worth the wait.

Regards,

Bill

I have a suggestion. I do agree that it should not be a race to get it around the country. And also believe it should be passed from bike to bike. However, think about it….there is no way everyone will ever get to pass or carry the mascot. There are just too many members. Having to Mascot at events like Daytona, Sturgis, Myrtle Beach and the Mini Rally in Effingham would give a lot of member a chance to sign it even if they never get to carry it. It is still in the spirit of the mascot as the members are gathering and meeting and sharing a good time in order to sign the mascot. I think in the case of these events it would be okay to mail the mascot to someone who would be able to make sure it was there and organize a time for all the members at the event to meet and sign it, take some pics, etc. Then it could be mailed back to the place it was prior to the event to continue being carried from member to member via bike. That way no one gets missed but the mascot is still present at the rallies/events. What do you all think?

I agree Heather. My first choice would not be to mail it and I think we have a good chance of getting it to Daytona in time for the Rally. After that we have time to pass it along to Myrtle Beach and then to Illinois for the Midwest Rally. At the Rally in Effingham, IL we can pass it back to some one heading to an area that was missed due to the bad weather this winter. We will get it back on track if everyone just calms down. I've had at least 25 pms and e mails about this over the last two days. I don't have the time to be the mascot honcho. We can't make all the rallies every year so there is no use in trying.

I still agree that the Mascot should only be moved from bike to bike. To mail it or drive it would destroy the spirit of the Mascot. I still want to pass it around like we have always done. All I am asking is that we do it in such a way, that it also makes its way to the major rallies so more members can sign it. If we continue the way we have been doing it, only 52 members per year will get to sign or carry it. We now have over 8000 members and growing. At the rallies, at least more people will have access to it. This should not have been a hurry up and get it to Daytona situation. I have been trying to plan this since November. It is just that nobody has really been the final authority or planner as to where it will go. For the longest time there was no real organization and the Mascot kinda became stagnent over the past 2 months. What we need is a dedicated Moderator for the Mascot Forums, or some sort of official Mascot coordinator who can plan, coordinate, and track the mascot movements and will be responsible to see that as many people get an opportunity to carry it as possible. With a little organiation, we can have hundreds of people per year carrying the mascot.

This is really very doable...we're not talking about great distances here. Too bad we have to rely on weekends because just about all this week it's been great but by Saturday morning the forecast is calling for snow/rain and temps in the low 30's. We'l do the best we can. Ken

Bill Nourse and Mikeeeee said it best. The true spirit of the mascot is to pass it from rider to rider, not mail it to some location just because there is a rally or event. It has been obvious over the past year that it is difficult at times to get it moving. The bottom line is that if someone wants the mascot then they can go get it or coordinate with the current holder to meet somewhere in between. There is no pre-determine order, there is no dibs on it. If you want it go and get it, meet some one from the forum, share some stories and photos with the rest of us. Not trying to insult anyone but having a ton of members names on it as a result of mailing it takes away from the mascot and all the folks who have ridden the miles to get their name on it. Well that’s my ½ a cent.

I vote no mail....ever. It would become worthless if rides on anything but a Harley Davidson IMO. Riding a HD is what it represents. I would love to have the opportunity to carry it someday. Imagine after generations, and never been transported on anything but a HD.
