Recently put these on my '05 EG Standard. I really like them. They in no way change the lines of the bike, and blend well, while cleaning up the front end as they allow internal wiring to get rid of the unsitely zip ties. Very nice appearance, and functional. They have a little more rise and are wider than the OEM handlebars.
I originally ordered these while riding on my OEM seat. I was experiencing very sharp pains in my upper back after about an hour or so of steady riding.
Before installing them I put on a Corin Dual Tour seat (which moved me back about 1"), but didn't completely solve my problem. It was a vast improvement, but sometimes I would still feel some pain. Here's pics of the OEM and the Wild 1 bars side by side.
The bars seem to have solved all of the discomfort issues. They are slightly heavier than the OEM bars, and thicker, and they have a very nice look. They're definitely wider, though more to the feel than in appearance. I'm very satisfied.
Pilot the bars look good, looks like you did a great job. Did you have any trouble running the wiring in the bars?
No, I didn't, really. I'm still working on the DIY thread, but essentially, the wires from the left and right handlebar switch housing seach run to 12 pin connectors inside the front fairing. So, I cut those all off about 3 inches from the connectors...ran the wires through the bars, and then resoldered and shrink wrapped the wires back to the connectors. Plugged in the connectors, put the outer faring back on and BAM! I was pretty much done.
I am going to wait to decide on whether I need longer bars or not until after I ride to Laughlin. Right now the stock bars seem fine, but 500 miles to Vegas in a day will give me a better idea of how I feel about them.
I agree with you. Different body shapes obviously have different needs...for me, with the long trips we'd been taking, I need to get a change.
I'm riding to Phoenix for a poker run they have on the 20th. That will be a long day with more miles than I have put on the bike in one day to date. I think it will be the real test of the comfort of the new bars.
I was considering the HD 2 inch pullback bars on my 05 ultra but the book said you had to replace all the cables with longer ones. Since the chubby bars are wider and have more pullback than stock did you have to replace the cables? Thanks.
I didn't have to replace the cables. I did have to reroute the clutch cable though. When you pull of the front fairing, you will see the clutch cable goes on the front side of the radio bracket. I had to disconnect it from the hand lever, route it inside the bracket and reattach. Took an extra 30 minutes, and I had to call Wild 1 to find this out as the instructions didn't indicate the need to do this.
