I blew the tranny case on my sporty and have been searching everywhere for a new one with no luck. Can someone please lead me in the right direction to find a 1980 HD Sporty 1000cc tranny case and tranny?\

Thanks,
You have a major problem. First, a Sportster doesn't have a tranny case; the tranny & engine are one piece. So, if you can't have the tranny section repaired, you need a whole new set of cases. Now for the really bad part: I'm not sure anyone is presently making old Ironhead cases.
What exactly did you blow on the cases? Weak points were the trapdoor, and the lower right rear corner. Trapdoors are available, and there used to be several companies that made new corners that could be welded in. Try here, and ask some questions. These guys oughtta be able to point you in the right direction. http://www.sportster.org/home.html
The lower right rear corner blew out. If you go to https://www.hdforums.com/m_221306/tm.htm and scroll to the very bottom. You'll see what I'm talking about. That is a picture of my bike.
Yeah, that looks a little familiar! I blew two of 'em, but a little more toward the actual corner. First one was dumping the clutch; took out the trapdoor, corner, some bearings, a couple gears, and the guy who put it all back together while I was in the Med found over 10 cracks in the cases. Lotsa fun!
Here's the story https://www.hdforums.com/m_112771/mp.../tm.htm#112771. I never got much help there though. I realize this is probably double posting which is a major sin on some forums but, I figured you guys might know a little more about it.

pococj how did you fix em?
Thanks,
It was back in the mid '70s, and my dad used to deliver paint and other parts for an auto parts shop. One of the customers was an indy HD shop. When I blew the tranny on the first bike, just before deploying to the Med, my dad took the bike to the indy and I had him completely rebuild it. The guy was an expert in all things HD. Motor came back all welded up, stroked to 77 inches, headwork, cams, etc. Second bike was actually my Dad's, who let me borrow it for a year while I was chopping mine. It got fixed by the same guy. Unfortunately, he was killed by a stupid cager years ago. That's why I suggested dropping in on the Sportster.org joint. There's probably someone there who can point you in the right direction.
