Default Mustang vs. Corbin

I'm looking to get rid of my stock two up on the Sporty and am looking at either a Mustang or Corbin two up with rider and passenger back rest. I've heard great things about both makers but have never seen or sat on either. Corbin's seem to be much more expensive but is this because they're much better? Is there another maker I should be considering (besides HD)? Any help welcome.

I got a Mustang touring seat for my Sloptail. Only use it when THE MAMA rides passenger with me. Picked the one with the widest passenger section for her. It was/ is the most comfortable seat I've ever had, barring the Police Solo on a plunger on my old FLH.

I have friends who have Corbin seats. They are hard, which ain't necessarily bad, but take some break-in time. Couple dudes have switched from their Corbins to Mustangs, and say they would never go back. One guy I know, and several I've heard from via different message boards, say they had QC problems with a Corbin seat, and didn't get very good customer service.

Pococj,

Interesting. I'm thinking about a new seat, but I'm going to make a few other adjustments first...handlebars and windscreens, and see where that takes me.

I've owned a Corbin on an older bike...it was firm alright.

I've never heard anyone complain about the Corbin before this post...I will look into the Mustang Seats as well, I hadn't even considered them.

Corbin had a great reputation for years. It seems to have suffered in the past year or two. Don't know why, unless it was the typical expand faster than quality can handle. Plus they went through a bankruptcy, or some other legal crap, with another business. Think it was with that 3 wheeler they were developing.

Ah....the great debate! Corbin vs Mustang. I've used the Corbin seats for years. The last three Harleys had the Dual Tourng model. There is an acceptable break in period. 300 to 500 miles almost always does it. They are indeed very firm, but that's a good thing. A nice soft seat turns into a very uncomfortable ride very quickly. You can't go wrong with either Corbin or Mustang. IMHO, the Corbin not only looks nicer, it's a better ride. Still, I've had friends tell me the Mustang is much more comfortable. Good luck!

I think you'd have to find someone who rides like you do and ask them. For me, the Corbin is a better seat but I put up to 30k per year on my bikes so long distance riding comfort is paramount. The wide hard seat is extremely comfortable on longer rides. It's set up in such a way that I get support all the way down to mid thigh.

As to their business practices, well it took them three tries to get the right seat to me the first time, although the support guy I was talking to was bending over backwards to expedite the shipments after the second screw up. The second seat I ordered in July/03 came on time and was the right seat.

I am finding that after losing all this weight, the seat is becoming surprisingly uncomfortable. I may have to e-bay it and order a new one ;-)

Here's one to consider, The Russell Day Long saddle. I've owned corbin, mustang, and everything in between. I recently sold a 2002 BMW R1150RT that I had a Russell made for. You cannot imagine a more comfortable seat. You can check them out at www.day-long.com.

I really like the Corbin Touring but the price...wow! I'll have to really look into getting some hands on with both before making my decision.

I have not had a Mustang seat, but I certainly like a Corbin seat. The Corbin seat is very firm and gives my lower back great support. Check on ebay for great deals on new or nearly new seats.
