LTR is right about that!
I went to the shop and wanted a rear brake hub bolt. Cadmium $22.00, Chrome $24.00.
Menards hardware... 63 cents

That's what I find appealing in older bikes, the uniqueness of them.

Holey Crap Ironhead, you put a grade 5 bolt in your rear brake hub? You need at least a 125 ksi bolt there! You better rethink that decision sir! Cheap can be fatal in that area....

it didn't take much thinking.... the H-D Shop made the suggestion, and 2... it would take 1 hellova lot of torque to snap that bolt.
I may however replace it with a stainless bolt.

The shear strength of a grade 5 compared to a grade 8 is about 7. You hight as well leave it an empty hole. The increased shear on the brake rotor/hub from a five axis center to a four axis center load with the 20% offset in rotational force or equilized torque load is substantial. Granted the fact that the shear of the four remaining bolts is tremendous, the comparison with all five is also a very great amount. Some grade 8 bolts go as high as 160 ksi so my comparison figures may be conservative.

But; two of the grade five bolts would probably hold the entire shear load of the brake rotor/hub so yes, you are quite safe; so I may learn to keep my opinions to myself yet!
