2011 Harley Davidson Sportster Model Overview
The Harley-Davidson Sportster has always inspired the energetic young rider.
This year’s 2011 offerings do that and more. Six Sportster models provide plenty of choices for new Harley aspirants as well as for veterans. The color schemes, power choices and styling are — well, pure Harley-Davidson.
Nightster
The 2011 Nightster has a mystical image that
allows one to become a night rider just by mounting the machine. The
black color scheme provides just enough “dark” to make you subtly stand
out in a crowd. Black means a medium grey 1200cc engine, black belt
guard, black front forks and black cast aluminum wheels. Chrome exhaust,
chrome valve lifters, etc., accents the black. Brushed dark grey
transmission and battery covers provide contrast. Chopped rear and front
fenders make for a rebel look. There is a black-on-black color choice
called Vivid Black; all the other colors (except the stand-alone Cool
Blue Pearl) have the Vivid Black accent. These are Scarlet Red,
Psychedelic Purple, and Apple Green.
SuperFlow
The
SuperFlow Sportster of 2011 reminds one of a “low rider” machine,
exactly what the Motor Company designers had in mind to be sure – but
without you having to spend low rider cash. While the Super Flow could
be mistaken for a Super Glide for its styling (the low slung seat has
room for only one individual), it has that Sportster look that makes a
double take unnecessary. You get plenty of chrome to get you noticed –
exhaust, forks, shocks, battery and transmission covers, cylinder heads.
The 2011 Super Flow Sportster is available in some trendy colors. Vivid
Black and Cool Blue Pearl, but also try on Merlot Sunglo/Vivid Black.
And for an almost 1960’s look, check out Birch White/Sedona Orange. The
Super Flow Sportster has the 883cc Evolution engine and is available for
a reasonable $8,000 U.S.D.
1200 Low
The Sportster
1200 Low for 2011 has a SuperGlide look. This Harley does have room for
another person, who has to sit real close. Plenty of chrome here, along
with a large capacity gas tank. Combine these elements and you have a
highway machine that also gets some powerful stares on the street.
Stunning colors to compliment the chrome are Vivid Black, Cool Blue
Pearl, and Merlo Sunglo. Purchase price is about $10,000 U.S.
Iron
Another
883cc Sportster for 2011 is the Iron. With everything black except the
exhaust pipes and parts of the front fork and transmission cover, this
is another low slung ride. Almost industrial in a powerful sort of way,
the Iron also seats only one and has chopped rear and front fenders.
Aggressiveness, the Iron has it in spades. Colors available are only
two: Chrome Yellow and Denim Black. Available for around $8000 U.S.
Forty-Eight
Ready
for a little nostalgia? You nearly get it with the 2011 Forty-Eight
Sportster. Based on a Harley-designed motorcycle that had the original
2.1 gallon “peanut” gas tank from the year 1948, this model will get you
all fired up to ply the curves, urban or suburban. The gas tank design
allows more engine to show, too. With room for one on the standard seat,
you can order a wide spring-showing seat, which use to be standard on
many Harleys. With low handlebar grips and under-the-handle-bar
rear-view mirrors, you get the feeling you are a welcome part of the
road. Three color choices are available: Vivid Black, Brilliant Silver
Pearl, and Sedona Orange. Price is about $11,000.
XR1200X
The
XR1200X is a nod to the original XR750 flat track racer, which set so
many records in past years. Its swept back pipes say “fast,” and its
black-on-black paint say “class.” Paint schemes are only two: Denim
Black and Hot White Denim. Price is around $12,000.
