Chromed-Out Dyna Wide Glide is Our Kinda Custom

With just 17,000 miles on the clock, this chromed-out Dyna Wide Glide is an ideal example of the cult Harley cult classic.

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is definitely what you’d call a “cult bike.” While some are quick to write the Dyna off as a bike between the Sportster and the Softail, it’s so much more. Its uniquely smooth-yet-sporty character endeared it to thousands of Harley faithful. When it was discontinued after the 2017 model year, more than a few fans wept for the loss.

The good news is that there’s plenty of great Dynas out there, including this 2004 FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide we found on RacingJunk. While the blacked-out treatment is popular these days, sometimes chrome just works better. This is definitely one of those times.

With its chrome-adorned frame and engine and stock tribal flame paintjob, this bike isn’t exactly trendy. However, for those Harley fans who were around in the early 2000s, this is a total time capsule. It’s simply what the style was at the time. With this being a relatively mild custom, we’d say it’s aged pretty gracefully. We might rethink the chrome flame motif grips, though.

Keep On Shining

Of course, with just 17,000 miles – that’s less than 1,000 miles per year – one would expect a bike like this to remain in good shape. Given the overall condition, it appears as though this chromed-out Dyna Wide Glide has remained well-loved throughout its entire life. Residing in Clovis, New Mexico, it’s also been blessed with an ideal climate for preservation compared to, say, Akron, Ohio.

From a used bike buyer’s perspective, chromed-out bikes like this one are typically a safe bet. The owners are typically fastidious about cleaning, polishing, and maintenance. As a result, they tend to be a good value with few issues. In many cases, the owners actually hold onto the stock parts as well. That means you can return the bike to stock and sell off the chrome bits, or customize it to suit your particular style.

In addition to the chrome and custom paint, this Dyna Wide Glide includes a clip-on windshield and Screamin’ Eagle pipes. For just $8500, it could be yours. For that money, it’s a great way to get into a nicely preserved, low mileage Dyna.
