Custom Road King Rules the Pre and Post Apocalyptic Road
Whether cruising a ritzy shopping mall parking lot or a shelled-out apartment complex, this custom Road King feels right at home.
The post-apocalyptic, Mad Max inspired style has made quite the comeback in recent years. Spurned mostly by a remake of the late 70s cult classic, futuristic yet highly weathered rides seem to be popping up everywhere. Heck, there’s even an entire weekend devoted to living out these sci-fi fantasies in real life. And when we recently ran across this incredible 2017 custom Road King build on eBay, it was the first thing that came to mind.
Granted, this is neither a beat up nor an old motorcycle. But the build, completed by Hofman Designs, is chock full of in-your-face character and futuristic flair. It starts up front with a menacing host of Klock Werks pieces, including the front fender and flush mount front axle. The nacelle is a Hofmann Designs piece, which holds a Ridged Industries LED headlight for a truly one-of-a-kind look.
Hofman’s fingerprints are all over this custom Road King, fashioning one-off bits including the dash, gas tank, saddlebags, lids, and rear fender. The whole thing is either painted or powder coated in earthy matte metallic bronze and semi-gloss black. Massive 21″ front and 19″ rear wheels hide equally massive 14″ brakes. Managing all that is a snap with Beringer hand controls and a comfy Mustang seat to perch in.
That level of stopping power is welcome when you’re rocking a 120-inch motor with CNC hi-po heads, of course. The big motor is full of performance goodies including an HPI throttle body and Thunder Max ECM. And of course, the whole thing rolls on an Air FX air ride, with billet shocks out back. We can’t think of a better way to tool around a post-apocalyptic cityscape. Or, for that matter, a nice, sunny pre-apocalyptic fall day, either. If you’re into that sort of thing.
