An E-Z Pass can save you a lot of time if you’re traveling on the turnpike.

For some of us, a four-hour poker run is what we’d consider a long ride. Touring riders are an entirely different breed. They’ll spend ten hours or more on their bikes, sleep it off, wake up, and do it all over again.

As a result, they experience some slightly different problems than most Harley-Davidson riders. While some of us may wonder where we can relocate our turn signals when we install lower handlebars (because they look cool), most Touring fans have more practical issues to deal with.

In this thread from the Rushmore section, member ACLazer asks where he should mount his E-Z Pass. For those unfamiliar, an E-Z Pass is a small transponder in a plastic case that automatically bills you for road tolls.

The E-Z Pass can save turnpike travelers a ton of time. Understandably, it’s a great invention for motorcyclists, too — no more fishing around for change, and less waiting in line, inching forward while you slowly cook inside your riding gear.

On a car, mounting the E-Z Pass is easy enough. Just get some double sided tape or Velcro and stick it out of the way on your windshield. Obviously, that’s harder on a motorcycle. There are far fewer places to mount an E-Z Pass, and while you want to make sure that the transponder signal can be read, you also don’t want to obstruct your vision on the fairing, either.

In addition, even folks who travel tens of thousands of miles a year on their Harleys take pride in how they look. There’s nothing attractive about a grey plastic box stuck to your bike.

Thankfully, several members have great solutions. 30glock confirms that an E-Z Pass will still work when it’s placed high up inside the fairing, which was ACLazer’s original idea. However, some other members have great ideas, too.

Top0211 mounts his inside his Tour Pak, but advises that it works best attached to the underside of the lid. Instead of mounting it permanently, 470004 just keeps his in the windshield pouch.

While Cosmic Razorback jokes about sticking it to the top of his helmet, we can’t help but think that’s a decent idea. The back or side would probably be better, though. We’d even try sticking it inside a jacket pocket to see if that worked.
