H-D Forums Asks: What’s Your Winter Project?

Now’s the time to tear into your bike and fix everything you broke over the summer!
For most riders in the Northeast, the riding season has already ended. With our bikes laid up until spring, it’s a good time to tackle those long-term projects were were putting off during the riding season.
SirHarley started a thread about it, and reading some of the responses has us inspired to head out to the garage to work on our own Harley projects. He’s already got his bike taken apart for some new seals, and possibly a new exhaust.
Super Glidester plans on removing both wheels himself, then taking them to an independent mechanic to have fresh rubber mounted and balanced. We know some folks just insist on changing their own tires, but we thing Super Glidester has the right idea here.
Cruisn is keeping it simple with new handlebars and a chrome oil tank, while Scudda is keeping it even simpler. His plans are to sit in the shed with his Harley and smoke high-quality cigars. We can’t argue with that!
Bentparts is replacing his rear tire, and rebuilding the swingarm as well. While he’s in there, he plans on cleaning and protecting everything he can reach. That’s a great plan — it’s much easier to work on that part of the bike while everything’s disassembled.
He mentioned that he does get a few nice days over the winter. Hopefully, he gets the bike back together in time to enjoy those rare warm days on the East coast!
Hellonewman is restoring a 1962 Harley-Davidson, currently stripped down to the bare frame. He’s certainly got his work cut out for him, but it’s bound to be a cool bike when it’s all back together.
Continuing with the vintage bike theme, Island Dude is doing a top end on his ’72 FLH. It’s a gorgeous looking bike, and we bet it will scream after the new parts are installed!
Lucky dog that he is, he lives in Alabama. That means that as soon as it’s back together, he can go riding right away! For the rest of us, we wish you the best of luck with you winter projects. We can’t wait to see everyone on their new and improved bikes in the spring.
