But an weight question.
What weight oil are your running in your twin cam engines ? Thinking of running 60 weight in my 15 twin cam. at least for the summer months. Opinions ???
60 weight is all i ever ran in my pan, shovel and evo"s year round.
Your question has rattled an old memory. Both my 2008 and now my '23 owner's manuals have a page with recommended oil viscosity vs temperature. It might be Harley trying to sell the "high priced spread", the only oil they recommend as "Excellent" is their full synthetic 20 W50 for temps ABOVE 30.2 F. Their dino oil of the same viscosity is only rated as "good" at temps ABOVE 39.2 F. The single weight 50 HD 360 is rated as POOR at temps ABOVE 60.8 F, and their single weight 60 HD 360 is rated as POOR when used at a MINIMUM temp ABOVE 80.6.
I don't know what time of day your normal "first start" happens, but even in peak summer in St. Louis, the over night low is probably below 80.6 F. Just looking at the numbers, it seems cold start flow is more important than high temp viscosity. When full synthetic 20 W50 from any reliable company is easily available, why choose an oil type the manufacturer rates as "POOR" even in the temp range that concerns you? Check your owner's or service manual, that chart is probably in there.
