HDForums Spotlight on Lady Riders
Welcome to HDForums Spotlight on Lady Riders. Every Wednesday we will be talking to one of our forum members and other women riders across the country to hear how they got started and why they ride. This week we talk to Lauren.
My story is not really interesting. Started riding aged 20 on a boyfriend’s Yamaha XT 500 on dirt in the UK. Got the bug and bought myself a Honda CB 125cc and progressed through to a Suzuki 550 Twin in the mid 80s. Quit riding to raise a family, moved to Florida and didn’t think about motorcycles for over 25 years. The bug bit me again 2 years ago when a guy (now my boyfriend) taking me out on a date picked me up on his SE Electra Glide. I was sitting on the back of his bike and after 2 minutes I said to myself ‘why am I on the back I should be riding again’.
I did the MSF course in 2012 aged 55 (the oldest in the class), went straight to a dealership and bought a Sportster 1200 Custom, rode a 1000 miles and traded it for a 2012 Heritage 8 weeks later. I still have the Heritage and also a 2002 Heritage Springer. I’ve ridden close to 30,000 miles in 2 years.
I’m almost always on a motorcycle these days. I love it. I’m lucky to live in S Florida where it’s all year round riding. I have made so many riding friends I’m never short of people to ride with or places to go. I’m looking forward to a long weekend in Arkansas with women from the Queens of the Road. This year I’ve already ridden to Daytona, Leesburg and will go to Daytona again. The last 2 years I’ve ridden to Key West and back on Christmas Day a 420 mile trip.
I hope I have years of motorcycling left in me.
Lauren’s two current motorcycles:
2012 Heritage Classic, Rush 2″ slip ons and Stage 1, chrome levers, caps, head bolts, lay down license plate, turn signal mod, Captain Itch stuff. 22k miles in 2 years
02 Heritage Springer, chrome whore, Kerker slip ons, Captain Itch leather stuff
