Default Ultima Electronic Ignition wiring

Ok ironheads. This might be a dumb one but I’m a bit confused. My Ultima dual fire ignition came in the mail and upon reading the directions it states,

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Be absolutely certain that the Blue wire and the White wire are in the correct location! If somehow
these two are reversed in location, the new ignition will be destroyed instantly upon powering up. Blue wire is 12V power &
the White wire is your coil trigger.

As I understand it there are only two connections on the dual fire ignition coil, and they both do the same thing and are interchangeable (the inherent function and wiring of a dual fire coil). So when I came across this last line I was confused. Anything you can clear up for me? As I'm sure you know, the ignition only has two wires, one blue, one white. These directions are the 53-49 pdf from ultima’s website. Any thoughts will help. I don’t want to literally burn it up when I try and start this bastard once the new coil comes.

Thanks,
Josh

Not too familiar with that ignition, but before you dismantle the old points set up, grab a voltmeter and probe the terminals on the coil. with the points CLOSED and ignition ON, 1 side will have 12VDC measured to ground. The other terminal should be 0 volts, this is the "trigger side"

Yup. I followed that advice and found which side came from the key. I suppose I’ll just have the blue (12v) on the key side and the white (ignition signal) on the opposite. Worst case scenario is I burn up the new ignition and learn a lesson.

It does not matter which side you choose for the white trigger wire; and you do not have to use the same side from one install to the next. But in the end, one side [the white wire trigger side] will have one wire only, the white one from the module. The other side will have two 12 volt wires, one, usually also white [which can cause confusion] which comes from the RUN switch or from the key switch, and from that same terminal one, in this case blue, carrying 12 volts to the ignition module.

All of the electronic ignition modules [actually both as I have experience only with Hi-4 and Ultima single fire] have used a white wire for 12 volt and a colored wire for the trigger. So on those modules it is white from the RUN switch, thru the coil and on to the module.

I was hoping to get the ignition hooked up today but ran out of time. Thanks for the help, I will keep you guys updated on how she goes.

For having just two wires I'm not sure how I got so confused

the ultima electronic ignition has the capability of running dual fire or single fire if you bought it new it should have come with a coil that has 3 connections on it blue wire goes to the front White in the middle and red on the back and single fire is your best bet the motor will run smoother sound better it will just work all around better

Hopefully he fixed it 8 years ago. You can shoot him a PM, he may get it since it's only been a year since he has logged in.
