Life in the Fast Lane: Russian Biker Saves Jumper (Video)

Quick-thinking motorcyclist with fearless driving skills helps save a stranger’s life.

Out on the road, we know we’re at a safety disadvantage compared to cars. We have to rely on our quick thinking to save our skin and make it home alive. This time, a motorcyclist’s quick thinking saved someone else’s life — and potentially the lives of several motorists.

A Russian man, hitchhiking across the country to attend his mother’s funeral, found himself unable to cope with the loss. Contemplating suicide, he walked to an overpass on the Minsk highway, ready to jump. With cars speeding by, it could have caused a serious accident that would have potentially involved several vehicles.

That’s when a motorcyclist, who was passing underneath, spotted him. He quickly turned around, riding against traffic on a busy highway and risking his own life to attempt to save the man. Even in Russian, the video footage is harrowing and tense.

Once off his bike, he began shouting up at the man on the overpass. After convincing him to step back from the ledge, he rode his motorcycle up to speak to the man. Several sympathetic motorists had stopped by this time, and they interrupted the flow of traffic to prevent an accident.

After listening to his story, the motorcyclist tried to talk about other subjects to keep the man’s mind off his grief until emergency services arrived. Although he tried to escape twice, the motorcyclist and the other motorists were able to catch him.

We hope that this man was able to find peace and get the help he needs. We also applaud the motorcyclist and the others who stopped for help.
