Sturgis is “The Heart and Soul of American Motorcycling” on ‘Harley and the Davidsons’
You see that fella above? That right there is Sturgis, giant buffalo adornments, flowing white hair, straw hat, and all. In the most recent promotional clip from Discovery Channel’s upcoming mini-event Harley and the Davidsons, which debuts Sept. 5 and runs for three nights, focuses on the mecca of motorcycling: Sturgis.
The short two-minute clip asks a bunch of people who are attending or involved in the gigantic rally in South Dakota what the event is all about and what it means to them. Every one of the answers proves just how important Sturgis really is.
“There are some people who don’t get along anywhere else, but they get along here,” one said.
A couple others explain that the wild reputation it has developed is only partially true.
“Sturgis is a lot of things to a lot of people,” an unnamed woman said. “I think people have this misconception in their head about what Sturgis is in that it’s every single day, every night, every minute getting into mayhem, and while there is definitely plenty of that to be found, that’s not all that happens here.”
The other part is sleeping to rest up for mayhem … kidding … sort of.
