V-Rod Destroyer: Thrill Machine in a Box

Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer

Thrill seekers won’t find a better use for thirty grand than this brand-new nine-second Harley racer. Yeah, we said nine-second racer.

Have you ever dreamed about tearing down the quarter-mile on two wheels? Do you aspire to compete with the big dogs in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class? Well, we’ve got just the ride for you. What you see here is a brand-new 2006 V-Rod Destroyer. And it is totally awesome. It’s so new, in fact, that it’s still in the box that it was originally shipped in.

We spotted the factory-built Harley-Davidson racer on eBay, where it’s up for grabs with a rather reasonable price tag of just under thirty grand. For that paltry sum you get a V-Rod-based production racer capable of low nine-second quarter-mile times. That is if you manage to hold on after the V-Rod Destroyer pulls nearly 2gs when it launches off the line.

Those impressive numbers are possible thanks to a 165 hp V-Rod twin and an MTC multi-stage lockup clutch. Combined with a massive rear slick and a set of wheelie bars, ripping off sub 10-second quarter miles is incredibly easy. All you have to do is make sure and hit the shift button whenever the LED shift light illuminates. Piece of cake, right?

Do it right and you’ll easily eclipse 130 miles per hour by the time you hit the finish line. Of course, there’s a little more to it than that. You’ve got to dial in things like tire pressure, wheelie bar height, and rpms at launch. And that seven-inch-wide Screamin’ Eagle Dunlop tire out back is only good for around 20-30 passes.

But you’ll have a hard time finding an easier path into the 9s. Harley built somewhere around 600 of these bad boys with an original MSRP of $31,249. And today, this might be the only brand-new, still-in-box example left. If there’s a better thrill machine out there for less than thirty grand, we certainly haven’t seen it yet.
