Watch a Pristine Pair of Harley Touring Bikes Go Rock Crawling in Moab, Utah
Wild Harley rock crawling video from the Cboys is entertaining, alas wrecking some innocent baggers that we’d be happy to own.
Moab, Utah is an mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, with boundless hiking, mountain biking, and off-road driving opportunities. Regarding the latter, one of the more popular trails is a series of petrified sand dunes called Hell’s Revenge. For the particularly brave, Hell’s Revenge has an optional obstacle called Hells Gate.
Hell’s Gate is a steep climb up a slickrock v-notch. There’s loads of YouTube footage of failed attempts that end with a vehicle on its side, roof, or even tumbling down the precipitous incline. This famous challenge is typically conquered by small-ish four-wheel drives, like Jeeps. But apparently, it’s now a thing for publicity seekers to attempt the dangerous ascent in all sorts of inappropriate vehicles.
Two mint condition baggers get wrecked
Previously, the motorsports and comedy group Cboys ran a Yamaha R6 sportbike up the sandstone chute, as well what looks like a Lamborghini Diablo kit car body on some sort of truck chassis. And now, it was time to try it on a Harley-Davidson. The Cboys already own a Street Glide that they’ve been abusing in other videos. For example, by turning it into a tank-treaded snow bike. However, that (already kinda ruined) bike was having transmission problems, so some new victims were needed.
On the way out to Moab, the group picked a couple of late model baggers which by their own admission, “are way too cherry to be doing what we’re about to be doing with them,” yet here we are. Even on the easier parts of the trail, the factory luggage proves to be an issue and pretty much self-destructs from the constant jarring. Though to the Cboys, that’s nothing a little duct tape won’t fit.
“The one thing we’ve learned about Harleys over the years is that they’re actually pretty capable,” says a member of the daredevil group. “They have a lot of torque and good traction, but they just don’t have ground clearance,” the commentary continues. The “good traction” is no doubt due to the knobby off-road tires that both bike are fitted with.
An impressive, Nonetheless
In the end, the rider of the black Street Glide chickens out on attempting the Hell’s Gate obstacle. The red Road Glide — purchased for $10,500 and piloted by motorcross racer Spenser Wilton — is mostly successful, though. The Road Glide’s frame gets high-centered at one point, but a little tug and push gets Spenny free and to the top.
What do you think about what these maniacs are doing? Is it to cool to push a mostly-stock touring bike way past its limits? Or just cruel and unnecessary destruction?
