A while back a guy posted about using 1/2" angle also, said he pop riveted it to the bottoms of the boards, usually replaced them at brake pad changes...
I traded my dyna for a SG a couple of months ago and riding 2 up I recently scraped . havn't looked but believe it was the pipes. I too like to lean it to the max but after seeing oneballz post 2011 street glide low side crash I am thinking of changing my riding habits ( especially 2 up ). The last thing I want is to scrape something that doesn't give and puts me down !!!
Am I the only one dragging the brackets? Got it pretty good the other day and it lifted my rear end enough I almost lost it.
I dont care about srcraping the floor boards I just want to avoid dragging the bracket because it doesnt have any give.
I hear you, I know prior to 09 the floor board would drag but on my bike the first thing to touch down is the bracket which could leverage the bike off the ground, on my right side I have a bell and when I hear that clanging I know I don't have much left before grinding hard parts. My friend as a Street Glide and her brackets have a lot of marks, sounds like a good idea something that will make the floor boards touch down first for a warning.
Didn't the older bikes also have an adjustment to raise or lower the floor boards?
The 1' lower rear on a SG makes it much easier to scrape. I'm not sure how you are scraping the mount and not the board. I'm scraping both. I have't had a problem with the back lifting but one time when I hit a pretty good dip mid corner while scraping ane got it on the frame a bit. Had to check to see if I needed a patch for the hole I sucked in my seat. Definitely needed a new pair of boxers. I put a little taller ohlins 3-3s shocks and with a 200/55 17 tire instead of a 200/50 17 and I don't scrape beyond the boards as much now.
I ride an ultra classic and it doesn't seem like I can get even close to the boards? Is it these guys on street glides and road glides who are on their boards? What's the reference point on an ultra classic? Is there anything anyone has added?and of you're on an ultra classic scraping boards are you on stock tires? I feel like pirrelli might get me there. Maybe that's what I'm missing?
Thanks,
