followed method a and, sure enough, had i of not used the sliced bearing, it would have been stuck in the recess over the new bearing. the slice let it pop right back out. overall super easy though.
bearing races are now in there. good learning experience. glad i'm taking my time there rather than rushing. took about a 1/2 hour or so.
since it went faster than i expected.. i took the time to fool around with the old bearing and try out the grease packer.
that look right? seems really wasteful. i guess i could just leave the grease in there and just use it out of there if needed...
there was a lot of grime in there. i'm thinking the dirt roads are causing this and that i may need to service my tubes more often. it has only been about 8 months or so since i fully rebuilt them.
Also check this on the incoming bracket...I expect it to be similar to your old 1" bracket.
OK...Done
I would expect that '09 bracket to fit the 25mm axle better. When you get the bracket try inserting your old 1" axle. If it doesn't go, then yes the new bracket will fit your 25mm axle better.
????
And as a Reminder...
Also if you pull the rear wheel to install this new bracket, compare that bearing-to-bearing measurement again between the two rear wheels. Look close...could there be maybe a ~1/32" difference? If so, and the brackets turn out to be approx the same width, then you might want to use the 1/2" wide spacer from your pile (your old one should be approx .471" wide)

the 1" went right through:
so what did they change? why did they change the part number? mysteries.

Well, I guess you didn't receive a "09" Bracket
I have never held that particular bracket in my hands, but I thought that because harley typically makes caliper brackets fit the axle pretty well, then with the '08 axle change to 25mm, they changed the bracket also...which it appears they did because upon further research after seeing your post, I found the following...
And I didn't expect this....Harley couldn't have made it any easier to know what axle sizes are for which brackets.
so i can just run the bracket already in place, order a 25mm bracket, or get a 2014+ bracket and a smaller rotor. .... $ says leave it alone. i found the 2014+ bracket for $40. a smaller EBC... ~$175.
clutch upgrade~ $200. think i'll go with that since i'm about due for a "riveting" failure.
