mechanical repairs are almost never "actual hours".
a rate is established for how long the job should take and the job is billed as such.
a tech who can work efficiently and do right the first time can make more, a slow tech ( or one who has call-backs) will make less.
For H-D, the H-DMC usually establishes the time billed.
In automotive shops. the Mitchell Manual is the most often used source.
when reading an estimate or invoice make sure you are not being billed twice for portions of the job.
For instance if you are paying to "replace the battery" you should not be billed to "remove the seat".
Removing the seat is already accounted for in the time rate established.
Same with "replace belt" assumes that the swingarm is removed and outer, primary drive, clutch, compensator and inner primary are removed.
You should be able to get a time quote from any number of dealers and then X by their own shop labour rate.
Be aware that extra charges can come from seized, rounded off bolts, added accessories which complicate the procedure or general poor condition. anything which increases the time and effort it takes to perform the repair.
This is the reason that many dealers will not work on older bikes

Lol.........I was thinking the same thing. I thought I recalled that as well. My dealership said 13 hours, which I figured was WAY to many...... I think if I go that route, I'll be looking to an indy anyway to install.

It's an approximate 8 hours job for the install, so the cost is going to be roughly $800.00, plus don't forget buying the larger intake breather filter for 58" throttle body.
