Default Impeller wheel

The chrome skin on the Impeller front wheel of my 2016 Limited is separating. If I take the chrome off is there aluminum under it that can be polished? Thus just having a polished aluminum wheel instead of the chrome one.

Yes there is aluminum under the chrome. However, you will have a hell of a time getting all the chrome plating off.

Most chrome shops can take it off.. I've had one rim done when the chrome started flaking off on the inside..

Max, out of curiosity, do you know what kind of method they used to get all of that off? Like physically, or chemically?

Electrochemical. It's the opposite of what they do to put chrome on..

There's that, but I prefer C4, Tannerite when in a pinch!

Rather than take the wheel to a chrome shop to have the remaining chrome removed why not get the wheel re chromed?
Just a thought.

My 2015 Ultra Limited wheel has the chrome around the outer edge of the wheels and it's also has "bubbles" in the chrome. Nothing has fallen off but looks like it could eventually.

My solution.....LOL....I found a guy locally on Craigslist that had a set of the exact same Ultra Limited wheels that doesn't have chromed edges and I bought those from him. Evidently in later year(s) the Ultra Limited stock wheel edges were NOT chromed. (probably due to the "bubble" issue that some experienced). They are identical to the stock wheels on mine and will get installed when I need new tires later this year.

Having said all of the above....before I use the new wheels do I need to "seal" the polished/machined aluminum or protect it some other way....or is that already done in the manufacturing process?

So these wheels came from HD in this chrome plated or polished aluminum form?

My buddy had a '15 Ultra Limited, his came with the gloss black with chrome Impeller wheels... just under two years the edge of the chrome (against the black) started crinkling/bubbling, HD replaced them under warranty (2yr).
At the same time I had a '16 RGU, it came with black and brushed aluminum Impeller wheels... when cleaned and polished they looked almost as good as the chrome, but were a bit of a bitch to maintain compared to chrome.
I sent mine to ***** Shiny and had them fully chromed
