Default FLHTP Conversion

Ok. so just traded in my 07 street glide for a 14 FLHTP. Great bargain for new technology IMO but now i need to add the comfort convenience like a radio for starters. Anyone have any ideas about this issue? Right now I have an empty receptacle, no speakers, a usb port that connects to nothing. Pulled the fairing and couldn't identify any wiring harnesses for quick connect. Am i going to have to go completely aftermarket or look for a used 4.3 or 6.5 Boom! Box? anyone else done this yet or are these too new to the public market. Thanks for any suggestions, ideas.

Better start with a FLHTP service manual. Might have to get a FLHTCU service manual and compare. Police bikes are nice and can be had for substantially less than the comparable civilian version, but they require some patience and wiring skills to get the most out of them. Post a pic when you get a chance

I would join http://www.retiredpolicebikes.com/ and start checking out their forum. You can't be the first with a Rushmore police bike.

If I were you, I'd add an aftermarket, radio, GPS, Bluetooth unit. Most if not all are also DVD too but just ignore that part. Look for one that uses the Garmin platform.

thanks for the input guys. I went and talked to the guys at Maverick HD and basically I have to go after-market since NONE of the wiring is there - including the hand controls. I can get a pretty good deal on a marine grade AM, but was thinking about getting a Nav unit that has a pull-out screen.

Good idea on the other forum. I will check it out.

I will post pic's tomorrow. Pulled the tall, clear windscreen for the 7" wind splitter. Pulled the (IMO) cheap review mirrors and installed the fairing mount rear views - real easy job so far but the hard stuff is coming.

I would be careful with Maverick HD. By their own admission, they have only done a few of these conversions. Mine was the first one they've changed the wiring harness on. (about 3 weeks ago)

I just converted my 2012 FLHTP wiring to Street Glide and the wiring is a mess. I have the service manuals for Touring, Street Glide, and Police models, so I'm getting it straightened out. Maverick is helping me, but you should make sure you get the right guys on the job. The new harness works, but there are a lot of Police wires still in there, that aren't connected to anything. They run under the tank and need to be removed.

You need to buy a new Street Glide hand controls (buttons and housing), then change out the police handlebar wiring harness for Street Glide harness.

I also bought a new stereo with Bluetooth, iPhone, Android, and more capability. It all works through the new hand controls, but you have to buy a Biketronics Retro Radio install kit to make it so.

PM me if you want part numbers, prices, and details. Apparently, we live near each other. I've documented my entire build so far, so I can share whatever info you need. Mine will eventually be a full custom street glide.

Default FLHTP Sound system

I just purchased a 2015 FLHTP and had the same issue with finding a sound system. I finally had one installed at Daytona Cycle Audio. Evidently There is an after market stereo box that replaces the one that comes in the fairing. As for the wiring all you need is a power supply for the radio which is in the fairing. The only wiring you are missing is for the hand controls because there are no hand controls for a radio. I opted to manually operate the radio because I did not want the expense of installing hand controls.
