Default Skip Stage I and add Stage II cam?

Will I gain about the same performance keeping stock exhaust and AC on my 2018 fat bob and adding a Stage II torque cam?

I'm guessing the stock air cleaner is up to the task and with slip on mufflers and a tuner the/a torque cam would pull very hard.

Guy at the shop told me the ventilator style ac are gopd fpr horsepower. Drop a kn filter in it and you should be fine. Only reason I switched was cause my knees kept hitting, and I wanted black and machined ac

You can definitely keep the stock AC, and the stock headers; Harley's official Stage II upgrade chart lists the only changes on the 2018 114 Fat Bob as being the cam kit and the Street Cannons, so you may want to add some higher-flow slip-ons. My Stage II Fat Bob 114 is using the stock Ventilator A/C, the stock headpipe, the SE447 cam, and S&S Grand Nationals slip-ons, and it is a substantial improvement over stock

Thinking most stage 1 dynos are like 2hp gain, I’d go straight to cams on an m8.

I would either go Stage 2 or leave it stock. Stage 1 is virtually no bang for the buck on the M8. I've seen Stage 1 bike dyno charts show as little as 1 hp gain using the HD mufflers and tuner.

I think the stock headers with cat are very restrictive.

Get rid of them for a free flowing 2:1 exhaust, decent AC and a good cam (even HD cam) and you should see 110HP and 125TQ or so....

But yeah - Stage 2 rather than Stage 1 makes more sense.

Absolutley, positively go stage 2. You will eventually. I went with the 447 cam, stock ventilator, S&S Grand National FULL 2into 2 system, powervision tuner purchased from Fuelmoto with a custom tune from Jamie at FM. Couldn't be happier with the results. Bike is so much more fun to ride
