Not sure why you're being defensive... you're misunderstanding me.

I didn't say that over-gripping can't cause an issue... I said MY GRIP wasn't the cause of the issue. The Fat Bob was one of the least powerful bikes I've owned, and as such was ridden at far lower speeds than my previous bikes. I know how handle a bike at speed. Never had any issues with my speedo needle pegged on my Ducati, 2nd Gen Vmax or any other bike for that matter. It was an issue with the bike, not with my grip.

Hopefully I've cleared that up now.

It's funny how people act like the bike was some sort of rocket, or crazily overpowered. The day I bought it, an old timer came up to me to talk about the bike and told me to be "very careful, this is one powerful motorcycle". I smiled and nodded, not wanting to correct him. He persisted, so I pointed over to my Vmax and told him that what I was trading in was nearly twice as powerful, and that I was buying this one to have a calmer, more relaxed ride that I'd be less likely to get that hooligan feeling wash over me when I threw a leg over it.

I don't think he's saying that grip has no effect on stability in general. I think he's saying that grip was not the problem in this instance.

How about fork protrusion?
One fork on my bike was 1/8" lower than the other at delivery. PDI did not catch that.
