High idle

High idle
So I test rode and new SG today and was wondering why it was idling so high, it was 1800 rpm and when I got back from the ride I asked the salesman why it was like that. He said they can lower it and I asked why it was so high in the first place, he said something about they set them high to break them in faster. Is this BS? I could force the throttle forward and it would knock it down to 800-900 but it wouldn't stay, went right back up.
