Default I hate to bring this up again....but I’m pissed......

2019 FLHCS....brand new.....just crossed 1,000 miles.

Im one of those people who always follows the rules and ends up getting screwed in the end.

I took my Heritage for its 1,000 mile service just as “the man” would want me to. I have my motives.....I want to see my local H-D dealer succeed and stay in business. The Lord has blessed me beyond measure and I have the $$$ that give me the luxury of giving him my business even when the benefits are marginal.

So, today after about 150 miles since the service, I ride the bike and decide to check the oil after my ride....just for grins and giggles. Checking by procedures outlined in the manual, I find that the oil is WAY above the full mark on this 114 engine. What the hell are these guys doing? I took about 1/2 quart out just to get it to the top of the dots. I wanted to take it down about 3 more dots, but decided to ride again tomorrow and check it before I do that.

Oil levels (especially on 114s where fear of sumping exists) isn’t rocket science. I’m disappointed and pissed. I wanted to believe my dealer was better than this. Has it escaped H-D that service is an important aspect of business viability? Damn, just damn!!!!

Thoughts on proper oil level?

Interesting, the same thing happened to me on my LRS. I haven't pulled oil out yet but was shocked at the fill level.

Haven't taken it back to ask? "Why is my oil level this high?"

My 1000 mile service was the same too. Oil was 3/4” past full on the dip stick and my bike hasn’t been back there since.

I don’t have an m8 but don’t they hold 4.5 qts.? Seems obvious- they dump in 5 qts because they’re too damn lazy to measure out the last quart.

My bike was delivered new with oil level quite high, I checked cool oil at just above the full mark, so I pulled 12oz out. I did not ride yet so will be keeping a close eye on it.
I've not seen any first hand occurrence of sumping with a Softail, just internet rumors.
Probably a good practice to check levels after a service.

Mine was overfilled at the 1K service too. Then I changed it myself at 5K and, despite my best efforts ended up
overfilling it again. I still haven’t figured out how much oil the damn thing really takes.

Did you not call your HD service dept and ask them?

Like you, I support my local HD dealership. The guys are humble, honest, and I feel they do a great job. However, I don’t expect their service techs to be perfect any more or less than anyone else from any service dept.

Tech probably filled it while it was upright on the lift and put the recommend amount in while cold. Then when hot and on its side stand it will be over the hot fill mark. I have been putting 4 qts in cold IAW the owners manual, then running it and checking it again when cold to see if additional fluid is needed.
