Worst kickstand in history!
#35
I have a 2019 Heritage, recently my stand went too far forward and I thought WTF? Well the stupid little E-clip that holds the kick-stand pin in place is missing, the only reason the bike was still standing is the pin will not fall totally out before it hits the primary cover!
We could go on and on but this is a REALLY BAD DESIGN that all softail owners should keep an eye on! GOOD LUCK! RIDE SAFE!

Bad jiffy stand design
Hey all, 70 years old and 18 bikes so far. My 2 previous Harleys had the best jiffy stand design available. Easy to deploy, slides to the left as bike is leaned over and locks in place, never had an issue. Then I got a 2020 Heritage, oh my. Cannot deploy the stand without leaning the bike to the right, almost dropped it once. Stand doesn’t like to slide out because it digs in and there’s not much weight pushing on it when bike is practically straight up. Bad design, and I’ve read about people trying to grind the problem, or installing a PY alum block, or bending the stand. And advice like taking your weight off the seat, or turn bars to the left, or just get used to it, or just drive a car and stop whining doesn’t help. Seasoned riders can fix anything, but I feel bad for new riders who might get stuck with the problem. Good God I talk a lot. Anyhoo, just fixed mine by replacing stock jiffy stand with a $68 stand from the dealer via Drag Specialties that’s 1” shorter, part #0510-0523. Easy install with bike chocked up and remove the two 5/16” head Allen bolts. They’re tight, I used an Allen wrench with a pipe on it, but suggest you get a 1/2” ratchet socket with 5/16” Allen head. Remove spring, I used a C shaped piece of coat hanger in my vise, pull c-clip, and install new stand. I lube pin with silicone grease, and Loctite bolts to frame. Now stand deploys without leaning bike to the right first, doesn’t dig in and slides out into locking position easily. Bike leans farther over just like it should. Easy fix, dealers should be doing it for free.
