Default 2018 Heritage Issues

Question: I've seen mention of this, but still want to know how many of us experience "Difficulty finding neutral with the motor running"? I just got my 10,000 mile service and mentioned to the service guy who told me it should improve after they adjust the clutch cable. That did help quite a bit, but now I'm wondering if it has something to do with the oil not settled enough? It still seems difficult to find when I'm trying to park the bike in the garage after a good ride.

Question #2: Have any of you had problems with the latches on the saddlebags? On my second replacement (on the same side) and can't help but wonder if the Quality Control at Harley is lacking?

Question #3: When I bought my Heritage, I added a quick detach bracket for a trunk and ordered the trunk. The trunks for these Harley Heritages are junk. Not sure how many Heritages have been sold, but you would think Harley would re-design the trunks with better quality? I returned mine after they tried gluing themselves.

Gas Cap issue. During a long trip I ended up wearing my full-face helmet part of the way home and noticed an obnoxious whistling noise which turned out to be a defective gas tank cap. When the parts kid looked up the part number, he noticed that it had changed, indicating a re-design or updated part. Just FYI if you start noticing any noise from your gas tank, that's where you probably want to start. I haven't had a problem since.

In summary, I love my Heritage. It hauls *** and is light and easy to ride and move round in the garage. I'm seriously considering the cam upgrade and tuner. I'll try to get your input on that later on down the road.

Clutch ramp, your dealer should have a look at this:

I don't have anymore trouble finding neutral on my Heritage than any other Harley I have owned. But I have adjusted my clutch to suit me in the clutch basket.

Have not had any saddlebag latch issues but several others have.

Work around for buzzing/rattling gas cap. Search for "gas cap rattle" You will find a post by another member with photos showing how to put a dimple on the under side of the gas cap ring. I put 4 dimples spaced 90 degrees apart with a screw driver and a rubber hammer. Works perfect

I use a heel shifter. Finding neutral is a breeze with a heel shifter.

The latch on the left side bag sticks all the time on mine.

I use the trunk mounting rack but I just strap a bag to the rack.

Good advice on neutral and gas cap. I had a few problems with the saddlebag latches when in Florida in April 2019. It was me, not the equipment. don't over-stuff them and make sure nothing gets in the way of closure. Ask me how I know.

200 miles on my 2020 114 Heritage which I picked up 4 days ago. I have yet to find neutral when in 1st and the engine is running. Easier from 2nd, and much easier with the engine off. Bike is wonderful!

I have a heel shifter too and it does help, but finding neutral is pretty much a Harley issue and forever shall be.

I agree the saddlebag locks are cheap. I once pulled my key out and the entire lock mechanism came out with it.

I don't have any of the other issues though.

I haven’t had any issues with the gas cap yet. On my Evo Softail, the gas caps were constantly loosening up and rattling. I used to replace them every couple of years as routine maintenance.

Got my ‘18 new when they first came out and the only issue I have had with the latches is that they leak water into the bags - which counts as an issue! Has just gotten worse with time. I haven’t done the simple thing and slapped a bead of silicon on them because I keep thinking I’m just going to replace them....
