My FXDB has two holes in the swingarm just in front of the rear tire. At first thought they were a problem until I understood the swingarm was made that way.
I shined a light inside the holes, rusty as all get out. Grabbed my corrosion/rust preventer spay and sprayed the heck out of the holes as best I could.
Another time I had the tank off to do some work. I was looking at the front frame down tubes right at the frame neck. Didn't know that the tubes is not sealed at both ends. Rusty has heck, grabbed the spray again. Also noticed rust inside the neck to backbone flat plates where the key switch and wire go through. Grabbed the spray again.
It wouldn't be so bad if all this was painted, but it's bare metal, ready to get rusty. Go figure?????

Inside of the swing arm is raw steel. moisture build up and when water gets in there from the riding in rain or washing the bike will give you those nasty little rusty water spots when the water drips out the vent holes.
I'd take a product like Corrsion-X or Fluid Film and spray it in the swing arm vent holes when it's dry. That'll keep it from rusting. I did the inside of my swing arm and frame.
