Thanks for the help everyone. Got the actual oil changed, transmission oil changed and now I need to clean the air filter. It’s a SE wedge, but I believe this one does not come off to clean it. I’ve seen videos of people cleaning the wedge ones by removing them and using the K&N kit, but mine is adhered to the backplate. Just wanted to check and make sure I’m not crazy. This is the manual for that particular air cleaner, I am reading this correctly, right? It never says to remove the air cleaner (but it also says to shake the excess moisture off after cleaning, so that’s where my confusion lies).
It comes off. They do stick though. Gently pry it off with a screwdriver
You are correct. Got it off, it’s pretty well soiled. The bottom half is black, even after cleaning with k&n cleaner and when that didn’t work I tried soaking it in dawn. Thinking I might just replace the filter element and be done with this learning fiasco.

Although the factory filters are labelled serviceable they quickly deteriorate after being cleaned a couple of times. Better to replace with a truly reuseable filter like K&N that can be washed and re-oiled. That black at the bottom is likely blow-by from over filling and oil puking from the breathers. You'll want your oil level to be halfway up the dipstick hot and that'll alleviate a good portion of it.
Easy to over fill, usually start a quart shy and top off after a ride. A light four quarts with the spillage from filling the oil filter and then top off, usually around another 1/4 to 1/2 a quart.
On the twin cam, I start with two quarts. Dealer on the initial purchase service overfilled by a full quart, good thing I trailered the Dyna home.
Again man, it’s easy to do. No one is born with a dial caliper in one hand and a mechanical engineering degree in the other.
