FYI - I pulled my triple trees this winter to have them powder coated and the neck bearings in my Sport Glide were like new at 9K miles. Plenty of grease, no visible wear, water intrusion or issues at all.
When replacing the bearings, they came in sealed bags, greased from the factory and there was plenty of grease, no need to pack with more IMO.
I think that most issues reported are from an adjustment issue or water getting in from high pressure washing etc.
I also think that a pull force scale and a service manual are a good investment for checking and adjusting, if needed and something that is easily performed when doing other services.
the new replacement from Harley do seem to have some grease, i will press my more grease to make sure, then wipe off excess. I just did one of my front oils, refilled with screaming eagle heavy, Dam thing took like 20 ounces. The right-side fork oil was black/gray in comparison to the left fork the oil was some dark red like oil ATF.
