Default Full Ohlins

Thought I would post my thoughts on the screamin' eagle Ohlins front and rear suspension. I had Superstition Springs Harley do the install. It was a hefty investment but I have to say that the suspension has transformed the ride and handling characteristics for the better. Im running the recommended settings from Harley and I am seriously impressed with how precise the handling is now.

My only complaint with the bike was the stock suspension which is good but lacks the confidence inspiring control of the bike that the Ohlins does give. The front suspension is absolutely sublime. It makes the bike actually feel nimble. Its fully adjustable for whatever ride you want. Soft and comfortable or firm and precise. I feel like the factory recommended settings give the bike a firm but compliant ride, smooth over larger bumps and firm enough to push it hard through the bends. The upgraded brakes do pull harder than the stock brakes. The rear shocks are equally amazing. No surprises yet and definitely help give the bike a very controlled ride.

I feel like im riding a v-twin sport bike. Overall Im very happy with the ride, the looks are killer too but the ride is just fantastic.

I have Ohlin's in the rear and I'd like to install them in the front, but it's a $5k upgrade

I did the front and rear as well. Huge improvement in overall ride and handling. One thing for anyone considering it. To get the maximum benefit and performance, you do need commit to fully understanding the adjustment procedures to get them right. Start with the recommended settings and go from there. It's going to take a few rides to figure out tweaks and adjustments. You will need to take your saddlebags off and on every time you add and remove a passenger or a heavy load to adjust. the 1 full turn per 25 lbs is about right.

The rebound setting on the rear took me the most time and adjustments to get right.

I'm still dinking around with my settings. I have front and rears on my '21 CVO UL; they are not the SE Ohlins but ones purchased directly from the company itself. How did you know when you hit the sweet spot on the rebound?

I like a slightly slow rebound. I like it to sit just a little after a bump or when Im in a corner I like it to be a little muted. Too little rebound for me and it feels springy. I would try some big adjustments like 8-10 at a time, that really exaggerates the result and then you can fine tune your preference from there. For me I like slightly slow rebound I feel like the bike stays planted in the corners.

My dealer has a 20% off Screamin Eagle parts deal for the month of September. Only reason I finally pulled the trigger. It is very expensive.

All of the current SE Ohlin units are exactly the same at the Ohlins purchased directly from Ohlins. The earlier SE Ohlins we're slightly different. I got this information directly from Ohlins when i called for assistance making sure I understood setting the sag properly.

I knew I finally got the rebound right when I could go through a wide fast paced sweeping curve without feeling the rear end was squishy and out of control. As stated above a slightly slower rebound is better than too fast. It was rebounding too quickly causing a very uncomfortable sloppy feeling.

I heard the spring rates were different.

Has this changed?

My understanding was that the only difference was a forged machined lower, vs the screamin' eagle liquid forged, ie it looks smoother, still forged. Might be wrong tho.

I know these components are quality but in my opinion, way overpriced. I believe almost the same results can be achieved with way less investment.
