They are TS Fork Mounts for 39mm - 49mm forks $22 on page 330 in the new catalog. So I'm still under $50 for the bar stock and the mounts.

True, my original plan WAS to make them and probably still will. Just bad timing on J&P's part, they're suposed to send the catalog before I decide to make somethin.Regardless the price is right either way.

49.00 saddlebags.
bought some WWII .50 cal ammo cans, came to like 47.00 with shipping (Why can't I have THAT UPS delivery chick ?).
bought some 3/8-16 x 2" bolts from Home Depot (was hoping to have the problem Mud warned us about, but... no such luck) cost 1.80 for six.
bought some 3/8 fender washers for .72 (6 at .12 each)
used the bag of 3/8 washers i bought when i removed the old bags, and a U-bolt clamp I had taking up space in my toolbox (you could use 1/4" x 1 x 4 steel or aluminum stock...) and the original nuts for the bolts.

measured the first hole 2.5" down from the bottom of the hinge, and 3" in from the end of the box.
made a template for the other two holes by laying a sheet of paper across the fender strut and coloring it with a crayon.
centered the template on the box (aligned with the first hole) and drilled the other two holes.
remember to turn the template over and measure from the other side for the other bag (can you guess who didn't...)
place the fender washers on the bolts, pass em through the bags, then through the 1/4 inch stiffener plate, and then add 4 3/8" washers (you could use 7/16" metal tubing cut to 1/4" long)
hang the whole deal on the bike one side at a time (so you aint gotta mess with getting the bolt holes to line up), tighten (license plate bracket- rearmost- bolts first)
repeat process on other side.

stock turn signals (or any turn signals for that matter will not work with this setup... see muds post for a fix for this)
if you are running a rear luggage rack omit two of the washers on the rear hole (no change in tubing length cause it will clear the rack)

they aint that big but they will hold 12 cans of your favorite beverage
the last one is of daddy's little helpers (they did the crayon and paper part)

If your looking for ammo can's like those, find out where the nearest gun show is going to be and you can ususlly get them for under $10 each. Think I have about 1/2 a dozen of the silly things (full of ammo now) and never paid more than $5 for them.
