run wires through my bars
Im changeing bars on my FXDB "07" and I want to run the wires through the bars. so myquestion is do I want to disconnect them from the switches and feed them through or disconnect from the bike and feed them through the bars.

"Search" is your friend. Many threads about doing this.
That being said, disconnect plugs from bike, disassemble wires from the plugs, thread wires through bars, reassemble wires in plugs, reconnect plugs to bike. Easy-peasy.

On my Fat Bob one connecter has 6 pins... the other has 8 pins. If you look close enough you'll see numbers on each connecter which coresponds to each wire location. Make a sketch (PRIOR TO DISASSENBLY) of each number / wire color for each plug.
Even if you have the Electrical Manual for your bike the color of wire / number locations may vary.
I made the tools I needed for taking the plugs apart out of a papper clip and safety pin.

Will the new bars require longer wires? If so--unless there is some sort of "plug & play extension" out there--you would probably be better off cutting the wires in the middle and adding the extra length in the middle, where the splices will be inside the bars and not show. Make sure to solder your connections, use heat shrink tubing over your splices, and stagger your individual splices along the wire so that you don't have a big gob of splices in one place:

If I remember when I did my bar swap, it didn't look possible to disconnect from the switches. I would have much rather done it that way but lo and behold, they were disconnected from the deutsch connectors located inside the frame, underneath the tank. Pain in the ****...take your time and make good diaghrams before you touch them. I even took pictures with my digi cam as a back up.

The 06 handlebar controls used Deutsch.
In 07 they went to Molex.

Very simple to remove the wires. (pix follow)
First off you have a hook tool........

Insert the hook tool into one of the D shaped holes
and the point will aim at the other Dhole.
.

Above, use the tool to pull up about a quarter inch.
(you are pulling up the secondary lock)

Now, below I show a little T wrench I made up,
(for the primary lock)
using .032 stainless steel wire.......

Now, below, this is where you wanna poke your tool.
Doesn't take much, you don't need to bend anything.
Just push your tool in gently,
and pull it out the back (the wire).

All of the high performance fittings that are used these days are marked.
Whether they be AMP, Deutsch, or Molex (pictured below).
