Your 09 has the longer head handlebar clamp bolts on it. They have been linked to hitting the bottom of the radio and causing cracks in the circuit board(s). I had the same exact issue on my SG. Sent the radio to Iron Cross and installed the shorter head bolts (SB out there from HD). So far, so good....
I have an extended warranty but they say if they can't find anything wrong they won't replace the unit.
That's BS.
If it stops playing then somethings wrong.Of course this has to happen when they are trouble shooting. The dealer techs are not going to open the radio up.
Anyone ever have problems with the CD player on theirs? Mine will start a CD and skip or stop with up shifts and be down for a few miles and then just suddenly play for a while and then the slightest change in RPM it quits again?
We have a 2010 ultra glide limited its still under warrenty... and in the last year our dealer has put in 4 radios.... all doing the same issue... the sound on the radio would turn off.. my husband would flip the switch and it would come back on for awhile... then back off...
we are now on our 4th radio... this last time they though it was maybe the wiring.... to find out the factory radio is the issue.... i'm so over this... why don't they recall or just change out the radios with another brand...
What is so hard about that.... (i guess on a good note if you plug in your headset...you can hear the radio....

repost:
Problem is they keep ordering units from the refurb facility. There is no connection to the customer or feedback as far as what's been found and what may be causing the issue. Not getting the same radio back after the repair results in the loss of alot of the quality control.
Multiple issues on the same bike is probably not a radio issue, but a bike issue causing the radio failure (see broken fairing brackets, riser bolt impact, etc). __________________
