I am installing 2 Soundstream amps in my 2012 Ultra (PN4.520D and PN2.350) in my fairing and am running 3 sets of Polk MM651 speakers (fairing, lower fairing and tour pak)with external crossovers supplied with the speakers.
My question is whether I should set my amps on HP or FP for these speakers. Will the external crossover insure that the lowest of frequencies do not reach the speakers and damage or blow them up, or should I use the HP filter on each amp to take care of it.
Any help would be appreciated
I ran the Polk MM651's on my Streetglide, loved those speakers! The Polk crossovers do not limit the low frequencies from reaching the speakers, they divide the frequency range between the midwoofer and the tweeter. I used my Sony head unit to block anything below 50hz, I tried them both ways and I didn't hear a difference. I think it's best to protect the speakers from the really low stuff that you can't hear anyway on a bike. Unfortunately the Soundstream amp uses a fixed 80hz crossover, so you would need to see if it is audible when switched to HP. If you can't hear it when it's in HP I would use it.

Totally agree with Poolboy! By the way we have some POLK experts around here! lol
I sent Harley.2006 down here from the Step x Step Instruction Sticky where he originally posted his question. Told him there were several with extensive knowledge of those amps and more folks would catch it. I also explained how the lower frequencies, while standing still sound great, tend to get lost at highway speed.

Absolutely Mike! No bass on the highway. . .lol I mean you could have 10 inch subs and not hear em on the road. On long trips I would always reset my polks to high pass so I could play my music louder. When I got back home I would reset it to AP.
All this stuff being said what is the BT amps set at ? I know most of you know this but they don't have settings on them. Is this something you can change on HU?

My speakers are just not getting all the power I think they need. The hu is so confusing to set . That thing has way to many settings. I know I don't have it tuned in right.
