Default Speaker Question

H everyone, I'm looking for some advice on speakers.
My bike is a 2003 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Anniversary. I recently installed a detachable tour pack kit so I have my rear speakers off about 70% of the time (almost always when driving to work). It has the factory stereo and speakers.

In order to stage my upgrades I am thinking of upgrading in the following order:
  • front speakers + amplifier (if I went with the BT amp, this would not be in one step).
  • head unit (probably Sony)
  • rear speakers or saddle bag lids

I have been researching speakers for some time and based on everything I have read, if money were not a concern I would get the Biketronics BT-471's. With shipping and exchange rate (canada) it will cost me about $320 CAN for 2. The Sound Stream or POWER ACOUSTIK RZ4-2000D ($124 CAN on amazon.ca) is probably the amp I will get. I listen to FM a lot on my way to and from work and understand there may be an impact but hoping I can minimize it with type 31 ferrite beads (based on other posts and if I can find them).

This would make my setup:
  • Harley HU
  • RZ4.2000D AMP
  • New fairing speakers connected to AMP
  • Factory Harley speakers in tour pack pods not connected to AMP

Now my questions:
  1. For cheaper speakers than BT-471, does anyone have experience with Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X173 6-3/4" 2-way Speakers. I see them at Sonic Electronix for $82 USD a pair.
  2. what about JVC CS-V628 6.5" 2-way Coaxial Speakers?
  3. Kenwood KFC-1665S 6.5" 2-way Flush Mount Speakers ?
  4. Polk Audio it seems like I should stay away from based on the comments I have read on here. Is that still true?
  5. Should I run the rear harley speakers through the amp or leave as is?
  6. What else do I need in terms of parts beside what is mentioned above? A tray for the amp? Anything else to wire the speakers up?
  7. Any good/bad experiences with Sonic or Car Audio Giants?

Any help would be much appreciated, I have been searching the boards collecting information and now I think I am down to the last few decisions to make. We don't have a long riding season up here so I am hoping to get this done (DIY) before the July so I can enjoy summer with clear tunes. I also don't want to throw my money away on crap that I want to replace immediately. If the cheaper speakers work out I have a used Corbin Hollywood solo seat that I have my eye on that will get the extra funds

On a budget these are the best speakers you can buy for your motorcycle.

Forget about the Kenwoods and the JVC's. been there done that. You do not want those speakers on your bike. As you stated POLKS were the cats meow several years ago but the quality problems they are having with the MM651's drove customers away.

Stage one of your upgrade should simply be the infinity speakers and the PA amp. HUGE difference with just those two upgrades. For $100 bucks more I would throw some kicker KSC67 in the rear pods for the back channel of the amp. They drop right in the rear pods and are an excellent upgrade to the stock speakers.

Thanks. I've ordered the amp and the Kappas. One more question - what else do I need for my bike? Do I need a spacer kit, or bracket for the amp or are zip ties sufficient?

Industrial Velcro and zip ties will work just fine my friend. Not sure if you have the 6.5 speaker adapters. But you will need a set if you don't have them already. The best you can buy are the ARC adapters but there are others that will fit just fine much cheaper.

These work great with the infinity's
