I am going to be upgrading stereo a little bit this winter. I have an 05 ultra and want to keep the head unit. I have narrowed done the choices to hog tunes amp and speaker kit or Rockford fosgate. Would like to keep $ at around 500. My question is which set up has more bang for the buck? Any help appreciated.
Honestly both kits are very overpriced for what they offer. You're better off piecing it together. For 500 bucks you can put something really good together. I'd look at:
Since you have an ultra I would look at the Cerwin Vega B4 amp. I'm not a good one to ask on speakers since I am still running the J&M's that I bought a couple of years ago. Finally blew my RF this year and am looking at speakers to put in this winter. For now I just keep the bass down so I don't hear it pop.
For a 4 speaker system I'd choose the Soundstream pn4.1000. That way, no matter what speaker setup you choose to go with you've got enough amp to push it.

2010 Limited with some stuff
Agreed!! Just saw you were on an Ultra.
Amp - PN4.1000D
Fairing Speakers - BT 7P1's
Rear Pod speakers - Kicker KSC67's
Amp Wiring Kit
Roll of Polyfill
Just be advised the PN4.1000D may cause some loss of FM reception. Oh and if you speakers in your lowers get another set of Kickers and wire the ones in the rear pods with the lower pods together!

+1 I totally agree with Bates on this!! I would also take a look at Haze's post. " My $500 system will eat your lunch" My friend Haze is very creative LOL!!!
I think those are great options. I'm reading all kinds of great things about the Rockford PBR amps with Infinity Kappa 62.11 speakers and the Biketronixs systems. I have a rushmore bike so I'm just going to stay with Harley Boom for now.

I would only use the PBR if I 100% needed to keep FM reception and BT's amps were out of reach. At one point there weren't many options for 150.00 amps that fit in the fairing. There's quite a few now that blow past it.
Doesn't the 05 still have a Radio sound HU? 06 was the first year for HK's? Anyway, maybe procure a entry HU for chits and grins? B
Should be worth the investment. Good luck. D
