I've been told that the B52 has been rated at 50 watts more per channel. But also heard that internally they're damn near identical. I found a B2 for 116 shipped on ebay so that's the route I went. Maybe someone will chime in that has done a side by side.

Correct my friend. The B52 is the newer version of the B2 and has 50 more watts @ 4 ohms. It's a beast of an amp for it's size!

Is the added wattage really beneficial since we usually have the gains at only about half way anyway?

Edit..... did some reading, gain control has nothing to do with wattage.

I have found a couple sites that say the B52 is discontinued. Is there a newer version yet?

Have no Idea why it would be discontinued? I'd say that site is out of stock. It's their newest version of the amp. Just rolled out this summer. Normally companies tabulate annual sales before they discontinue a product. This thing has only been on the market 6 months at best.

They are not discontinued. Probably like Gannicus said, they were just out of stock. I bought 2 B52's at 2 different times from Sonic and both times they were the last one in stock and the website said discontinued after each purchase. There are plenty on eBay or Amazon though.

By using the term "Discontinued" rather then "out of stock" Sonic is sending customers away...

Just swapped the B2 to a B52 and I'm not noticing much difference ... just my opinion. Still tuning so maybe I'll find the sweet spot to show the advantage of the additional 50w.

Would happen to have Haze's settings on your Kenwood? I think if you set the Kenwood up to his settings you will notice a difference with the pros. He's got the settings on that thing down to a science.
