New system being installed ASAP. Anyone have experience using the SMD Distortion detector? Was going to adjust gaines using multi meter but this is an excuse to buy a new gadget!

Haze will respond soon. I've used the SMD. (He loaned it to me) But I prefer setting my gains by ear. I got basically the same results by ear that I got with the SMD. Good piece of gear though.
Hertz has the new MPX 165 out that is the replacement for the HCX line and is priced around the same. Also might wanna consider the Fosgate T400X4AD, it's also close in price and comes with a built in system that's the same to what the SMD does with input and output gain clip lights. You'll set your gains perfect.
I've had the Micro2 and the T400 and the sound is very close but I'd say the T400 was louder.
With regard to the SMD, it's a great neat tool. But if your not setting gains all the time on various amps, it's not worth 150 dollars. Your ears + a DMM will get u damn close.
