you guys running biketronic amps are you grounding at the battery or following the directions and keeping it a short as possible? also what guage wire do they use for pos and neg? my buddy has a pos wire that chaffed. he also doesn't remember what the inline fuse rating was. its the 2 channel amp 2180
I followed the directions. I was an electronics tech in the Navy and was always told "Ground is ground the world around." So whether you are connecting up there or the battery, you are fine. I have also installed many auto amps and the ground point was always as close as I could get to the amp.
Sean not really when dealing with a bike. Reason why on a car is resistance vs the amount of draw on a typical car amp, hence the shortest wire possible. The BT amp is a bit different than most amps as you can use 12 and 14 awg wires. The triple trees are not a solid ground and therefore it is always recommended to run to the battery to limit resistance. This has been covered here on multiple threads.
This was a concern I had and brought it up directly with Mike at BT. He explains it better than I do, and is more than willing to include a longer cable, but it isn't required. He knows far more about what the BT amp requires than many of us do. My amp is working great grounded to the radio mount. A loose ground there is only going to affect the amp which has a lifetime warranty. Mike is willing to back the product for life with the instructions given. So, I don't see the need to run a ground to the battery. You may also find that you pickup noise through the ground wire if you ground to the battery because you are running it through the tray with all the other wires.

yes I know it does come with it. but I think it has a cut in it and need to know what guage to have available incase i need to replace the wire for him, what amp is the included fuse?
I may get a chance to pull the seat and tell you the fuse size but not sure. You could email BT and ask for a replacement? I believe its a 12g power and 14g ground. Off hand I think the fuse is a 30A but don't take that as gospel. Do you have the current power cable with you? the fuse is on the battery end of the cable.
