What does a DSP do?

It's a "digital" signal processor. It does just that, some better than others. You have individual channel EQ, gain, filters, delay, time alignment etc. For just about EACH speaker on your bike. It's not just something useful in motorcycle audio....it's something very useful for any audio.

Probably not important for me if I am "fairing only wanting decent sound I can hear going down the road" kind of application, right?

T- no doubt. First step is HU replacement when the heat hits (they tell me it's coming). I saw a lot of custom builds (not audio sleds)at Phoenix bike week with Aquatic HU's. Anyway will replace stocker with something.
Then bridge existing PA RZ4 2000D to the BT 7.1's and evaluate.
Then decide if amp gets switched, speaks, or both and with what.
