Basic Speaker and Amp recommendations
So want to plan the system I want to install this winter. I have no clue about ohms, watts per channel, etc... so hopefully you can all steer me in the right direction. I’m looking for the following:
- I have a Special that is slowly being converted into an Ultra, so currently only have the 2 front speakers in my fairing, but would like to add speakers to my tourpak. Will install Harley stock pods to make it happen.
- I’m good with a wrench, but anything electrical is my achilles heel. So the entire system has to be completely plug and play (deutsch connectors, etc...)
- I'm not looking for a phenomenal system that would knock the socks off the entire block, all I want is to hear my tunes while riding in the highway with my full face helmet.
- I’ve heard about tuners or line levelers, do I really need that. Not looking to replace the stock head unit.
- looking for reliable marine components as I ride out west every year.
- I would like to spend less the $1K for the system. $500 would be ideal, but I think an amp alone costs around that much.
I think that covers it for now....looking forward to your suggestions.
Is there better out there, sure is, but for what I spent, I'm happy with it. Also with the help for others here, install was easy
If you are planning on pods, than I would recommend a 4 channel amp. Probably the Stinger 700 Spx.
For speakers the options can vary based on price.
Maybe some Mmats PA 601.ca for the pods and DB WDX6s Gen 2's for the fairing.
That should all fit in your $1000 budget
If you are looking to save a few bucks, maybe toss a set of Infinity Kappas in the fairing, and a 4 way pioneers 6.5 in the tour pak pods. That will keep you in pretty close to your $500 budget. Plenty loud enough, and sound decent.
have been running the Kappas and the Pioneers for a couple years now, and just getting ready to upgrade to the Mmats and DB WDX6s.
@Lu , you're riding a special so the rear speaker channels aren't enabled by default. If you want fade control you'll need to have your radio flashed to enable the rear channels. Alternatively there are work-arounds that would allow you to drive all four speakers while using just the two channel inputs on the AMP. There are a couple different ways to skin this cat, so first you'll need to determine whether you want fade control (operational from the head unit) and if so, is your dealer cooperative enough to set you up with the Ultra 4/0 flash.
