Default Advice on upgrades and 8” speakers in lids

Hi all,

i am looking for your specialist audio knowledge. I have a 2018 FLHTK

I am looking to up the audio capabilities of my system, I ride 75% of the time with the tourpack off the bike, so I am looking to add some speakers to my bag lids.

i am looking at buying the Advanblack 8” speaker lids.

i would like to run the fairing and lid speakers from an amp, change out the fairing speakers for 4ohm and get some 4 ohm 8” speakers.

how do I go about this? Can I get a 4 channel amp and run the fronts, rears from an amp and then the tourpack speakers directly fed from the existing feed from the radio?

if I go down the 8” lid speaker route, all the speakers will be 4 ohm but the fronts will be 6.5 (if they fit in the fairing) is that difference going to cause me problems with the amp?

i am in the UK, but that shouldn’t make too much of a difference, I think the radios will be the same 🤷🏻*♂️

i have a fairly limited budget of around £450 or $600 for audio (amp and speakers and wiring......speaker lids are not included in that budget).

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

What kind of pricing power do u have on Hertz or Focal being that u will avoid tariffs & shipping over the pond? Ground Zero even has some stuff that might work.

Focal Sport amp, matching speakers for the fairing & TP pods off channel 1/2, and the lids off 3/4. If ur gonna run horns in the lids vs a coax 8" speaker u can get a little micro Focal and hide the easily in the fairing.

Lots of options but that's just a simple example w product u may be able to get at more reasonable prices.

You will need a Biketronics Line Leveler and an amp that is not constant watt/power.

Once u get the wiring concept, Watts & essential items, then u can dial in the specific product that fits ur budget.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Is there any way to run the bag speakers as component speakers and the fairing as coaxial ? Or would this mess with the amp? I don't really want to have to cut any holes in my fairing to fit new speakers etc.....

The Focal FDP sport amp is not readily available over here, to be honest there doesn't seem to be many options when it comes to amps suitable for a bike/atv over here. Speakers seem to be reasonably priced and easy to get a hold of.....

I have noticed a number of people saying that a line leveller is required, I will add this to my list of purchases.

This is one of the small selection I can find over here? Maybe I am looking in the wrong places though?

U can absolutely run the fairing off channels 1/2 as coax and the lids off channels 3/4 as coax or component.

Hertz is good stuff but that amp u showed is just way under powered for ur long term goals.

First big question is, are u an all weather rider or a fair weather rider?

And what specific lids are u looking at? The ones with only one hole for an 8" speaker or an 8" speaker and a horn?

Fair weather normally, but given I live in Scotland fair weather can change to a downpour in minutes any time of the year.

i am looking at the advanblack 8” lids with the horn (you can choose not to cut out the horn section and just use an 8” coaxial speaker if need be.

Thanks again

U might consider a waterproof 8" coax for the lids then. Horns don't like water!!! DB Drive makes one and of course there is no better than the JL880 but those blows ur budget with just the speakers.

For the fairing & TP u might just go w the Polk MM1 as they too are less susceptible to water damage.

The amp situation will depend on the speakers u are leaning towards.

I have narrowed the search a little but may have to up the budget if I go with option 1. Option 2 is much cheaper, but I am not sure on performance on a bike?

option 1:
