looking to see if there is an alternative (cheaper) option to the 6.5 inch tour pod rings through VTwin or even discounted version. Seems silly to cost $99 for a couple of plastic rings. I am putting in the mmats 601s in my 2015 ultra and looking for best cost. I even tried to put them in without anything just to see and hope but they are much larger then stock.

Amazon sells all sorts of 6.5 speaker spacer rings ranging from 1/4" to at least 1". Prob anywhere from $6 to $20. I guessing the 1" might be a good place to start and grind them suckers down in the areas that don't need the depth thus giving ur 2 up guest a lil more room.
Just have to get a lil creative and put in the sweat.

Thanks! I’ll give some ones on Amazon a shot just thought I’d ask and see.
The Vtwin adapters look like they belong on the pods. 1/2 or 1" spacers just don't look right in my opinion. Other folks have taken the vinyl off the pod, secured a 1/2" spacer to the pod, then rewrapped the vinyl.
Obviously budget, quality, and looks will dictate your decision, but there are some good options out there.
As AD mentioned a 1/2 inch spacer works well and fits under the vinyl covering. Just take your time when pulling the staples out so you dont rip the vinyl. Secure the adapter rings down with the stock well nuts and screws, stretch vinyl over the rings and restaple vinyl to rings. You may need to warm the vinyl to get it to stretch far enough to cover the rings.
I have ran a variety of larger magnet speakers in my tourpack pods with the 1/2 inch spacers.
Not cheaper, but a great alternative is June's Upholstery has some great pods..you can put just about any speaker in them..got a set on my 13 flhx...got them off ebay

Amen brother!!! I got the oversized pods from e-glide and damn near everything drops right in.
I have seen folks get creative with the spacers and make them look damn clean thus a much cheaper option if u don't mind the look of the spacer itself.
The VTwin speaker adapters are actually not just a ring. They are designed to give you added mounting depth, look good, and flow nicely with the shape of the pods. They also include a speaker grill.
I didn't use the included grill because I wanted to match the JL grills I already had on the lowers. So I fit the JL ring and grill into the VTwin adapters.
